Person 1
Shaky camera
actress looking towards camera and laughing
1.14 - blurry
bath scene is a good concept
the scene in the wood with the girl dancing is to fast for the song
more lip syncing.
Person 2
Dramatic/creative
Slow motion dosen't work
lip sync is way of - no performance
can hear bathtub noise
fuzzy
narrative unclear
interesting lighting in the forest/candles
Person 3
good ideas, however narrative is sometimes lost
not much performance
lip sync is off by quite a lot
mixture of emotions such as crying + laughing at the same time (focus on just one)
shaky camera
fuzzy in some parts
slow motion is good but very jumpy

Filming and Photo shoot issues and its resolve
Due to my artist not being largely available to film the video and for the photo shoot as originally
intended, I had done the best I could by spending time doing the filming and photo shoot and on the same day.
intended, I had done the best I could by spending time doing the filming and photo shoot and on the same day.
Health and safety considerations
Working with matches and extremely hot water for the brief bathroom scenes measures where taken if burns where received whilst filming.
- I had prepared a sink full of cold water as a safety measure.
Outside filming in the forest, we had made sure we where relativity close to edge of the forest so as not to get lost and had torches so we could see any potentially dangerous obstacles whilst making our way to filming locations.
- Maintaining close proximity to the forests edge.
- torches as to make obstacles didn't hinder filming in any way.
Draft Music video :
There will numerous improvements to the the video for example better and more syncing. I hope you enjoy it

Filming update - Bathtub scene
I had experimented with shots for the piece trying to find which had worked well when I was framing the shots.
Instead of the petals that was initially planned we had decided to use entire roses as it gives of a more atmospheric effect I was looking for, the roses where thrown into the water at first which i filmed with both the camera I was using and my phone The reason I had included my phone in the piece was purely so I could look at specific filters and the solo motion effect before I had to decide whether to put it into the final presentation.
To create a ripple effect in the water I threw miscellaneous items into the water these included pebbles from my garden, this did not have the effect that I had intended so it was cut out.
The dress we had thrown into the water was carefully chosen, I had needed something simple to be able to show my audience that the the girl the piece focused on was just plain and ordinary there is nothing different or extraordinary about her throughout.
I had handled matches in this scene in order to light candles around the bathtub and to burn one of the roses. when handling them proper precautions where taken to make sure I wasn't harmed when handling them.
The bath water was steaming as intended for this scene so I had to work through most potential hazards this would have caused, wet floor/walls and the inability to some of my surroundings.

DigiPack planning
I want my digipack to subvert the normal jazz norm for covers whilst the artist will placed in the cover I want it to look as though she does not want to be there which fits the overall tone of the video, the main character is in a situation which she would rather not presently be in.
In terms of colours for the piece, I want it bleak so Im thinking of using worn sepia colours for my each main part of the cd case (including CD disk design). Front image of my CD is going to show the woman staring sadly into the pond wearing the dress floating the pond during videos climax, as with the petals the dress will show a colour of meaning e.g. Red/Black/White and It will be made to stand out from the sepia colours of the cover.
My Website will be simplistic much like Michael Bublé, as it gives the audience a chance easily see as much as possible without having to search through numerous tabs or being halted by the artists new video, I want to be able to give my audience the choice of what to click on.
The background to my website will show the pond water with the petals floating i'm thinking of using a similar mix to my CD cover of sepia, bolder colour and sharp outline I am also looking at using brighter colours for my tabs to different parts of my website.
Filming update
filming will begin within the next week (tuesday and wednesday) when my main actress (Ella Fleck) is available to film.
The First scenes we will be focusing on is the house as both rooms need to be built up as a set similar to what I had described in scene/set description.
Safety precautions will be taken when handling objects such as candles, alcohol whilst seen in the video will only be used for the purpose of being a prop and shall not be consumed by the actress unless it is needed in the video.
prop list:
- Chocolate Box
- Wine Glass
- Wine Bottle
- Picture Frame
- Candle

Location/scene plan - My house
Two rooms, in my house will be used in this piece, (the bathroom/bedroom). the back bedroom will set up like a depressed girls bedroom, a bottle of wine and a glass will be in the room as well as sweet wrappers. the bedroom will be the opening shots of the video starting out showing the woman on the bed holding and empty glass and clearly upset, she will be seen looking at a picture but the content will not be shown, (lip-sync: 'is your figure less than greek' or 'is your mouth a little weak' will possibly be used here).
The colour red will be frequented with various items in the room as a form of foreshadowing to the tragic ending of the video.
(Picture will be added)
The Bathroom will only be used in flashes as foreshadowing to the ending scene. The scene will be set up to look a monument of respect you would where someone was killed in an accident we will be using white and dark red candles to surround the bath, candles, the bath tub will be filled with petals again foreshadowing the ending.
The Flash forwards and flashes to the bathroom scene will only be used when I deem it works for the video.

location/scene plan - Epping forest
There will be lip-sync used in this scene like there rest of the piece it will only be used when it is really needed for example 'each day is valentines day', will be a line used to convey the woman's distress and almost madness.
Epping Forest, is the setting of the videos climax, throughout the video you will get quick flashes of the the forest location as what I would like to call obvious foreshadowing to the videos climax, the full forest scene will start fully during/after the instrumental scene with an establishing shot of the pond area, and end with a close up on the woman's dress and the petals floating in the water and then the will be a slow fade to black.
For the most part the scene will consist of the woman standing by the water with cuts angled around the woman's reactions.
Epping Forest has a wide variety of ponds as well as a lake in the Roding Valley area in which I can use for my videos final piece.
(All ponds and lakes used in the video are places tourists frequent and i'am aware that I have to be careful whilst filming.)

example of Jazz Music videos
Frank Sinartra - That's Life (generic) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3NCN6tl_DY0
This Video, is what I want to base my own video on, I want my own video to be extravagant though hence I'am playing with the idea of using dancers in my video to make it look as though there is more going in the video and Im not looking at restricting myself shot of a medium close up and am aiming to make the video's presentation diverse and give my jazz video a unique look.
As shown through Framing Sinartra is at the dead centre of the video as he gives the most impact throughout with is strong vocals.
Michael Bublé - Feeling Good (Story Based) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Edwsf-8F3sI
This video has a loose story which is another option for what i'm looking to create with my own music video albeit more serious and tragic as this video is made to look like a 60s spy drama or James Bond movie.
throughout the video the vocalist is seen as the main protagonist, this will be case with my own video but only briefly (on key words) and at various points during the video.

Location Ideas for my music video.

My next location are a girls bedroom (Back bedroom/Sisters bedroom) in my house, I plan to set this up with candles and subtly add items of red/pink into the room, pillows need to be a mess and a wine bottle and chocolates need to be scattered around to show the girl has been crying into them it applies to gender stereotyping.
The bathroom will be seen in brief flashes, depicting a full bath full of petals and flowers surrounded by candles this is meant to foreshadow the ending shot of the video with the petals in the lake, the candles hear are meant to symbolise grief and sorrow.

Prop ideas for music video
In my video, I'm planning portraying tragedy and despair as an over arching theme and I had thought the best way to show this was in a woman's reaction to a failed romance, thats why I had decided to incorporate the colour red into my piece in some way as it is known to symbolise 'death' as well as 'passion/love', I have decided to fit the colour in subtly at some points and towards the climax of the video the colour red will be shown through red petals.
There will be scenes that include candles in the video, mostly to add to the solemn atmosphere I'am trying to create in the video they will mostly be used inside for the bedroom scenes of the music video.
The Womans clothing in the video will be plain, modern and of any colour to show simplicity and ordinary i'm looking at this to give the audience something plain to latch onto and feel sympathy for which will be my intent throughout the video.

Initial ideas for Music Video
Link to music used for video:
I have thought a lot about what I want to do for my music video project. I knew I wanted to do a piece which incorporated the two things which I love most:
1) Jazz Music
2) Drama
Therefore I have chosen one of my favourite songs called 'My Funny Valentine'. There is a well know version by Frank Sinatra but I have chosen to use a interpretation with a female voice by Sarah Vaughan.
I want to represent this song using a famous scene from Shakespeare's play Hamlet; the drowning scene of Ophelia. I want to look at the themes of madness, love, obsession, fear, despair and death.
I spoke to my sister about my idea for my video, who told me to look at a painting my the Pre-Raphaelite painter John Everett Millias which shows Ophelia's death scene. I would like to base my video around this dramatic image and add to it a further artistically. Upon researching this upon the internet I also like the idea of using a Victorian inspired and setting with a modern day twist.
I live very close too Epping Forest and I intend to use this scenery in the video, which shall have two more settings. Second, a female's bedroom and third a bath filled with petals and candle light.
I want this video to be dark and interpret the song in a new way. Looking at a dysfunctional relationship and a deeply disturbed individual. I hope to use one female character and focus on this womans trauma throughout the piece.

Audience profile for my Funny Valentine
My intended audience profile for my final music video, range from late teens (16-18) and over, I had decided to focus on these age groups as they tend to appriciate music and don't just take it at face value and feel that an older more mature audience will be able to understand the themes of deprestion and sucide and its causes that I'm trying to bring across in my video.
Example of my Audience:

Teenagers Adults
Example of my Audience:

Digi-pack research 2 Michael Buble
The Michael Buble CD covers are the perfect example of what to expect from a modern jazz CD it shows more of a spectcle in comparison to that of Harry Connick jr's covers but their is still the simplicity of only the artist on cover accompined by text its just done in a brighter and bolder style.
Example 1

This image displays the perfect example of modern jazz, whilst the artist image isn't directly looking at the audience it's the usual jazz layout for a CD cover although there is the use brighter colours and a strong font that still make it eye catching and appealing for the audience.
Example 2

This second example image is a good example of audience communication in a front cover image as he is staring directly at the audience and pointing as if to say 'buy me' the colouring of the Cd is uninteresting but its the audience address that makes the cover an interesting example.

Digi- Pack research 1 Harry connick jr
Many Jazz artists have similiar if not the same design for CD covers this is something I want to replicate with my own work.
Example 1 Harry Connick jr

The cover for this CD is simple yet it still draws people in this is something I intend to achieve with my own piece of work keeping it simple yet maintaining my artist as the center and main focus of the piece.

This is another example of a simple front cover whilst I dont intend to to work with an extreme close up image but like the other cover it catches the audience as if the artist is looking at you in similiar manor to that of my previous example.

Website research 3 - How I will create my website
To create my website I will using Wix a website which allows others to design their own websites at a professional level if it is done to the correct standard.
Link to website http://www.wix.com/website/templates
These photographs show the quality of design that can be achieved through working through Wix and what I hope to achieve with my own page.

Website research 2 - Elvis Costello
Elvis Costello does an excellent job of promotion through his website, as soon as you open up into the website a song plays, I as an audience member would I would be open choosing whether I wanted to listen to that particular song or not.
The concept of the homepage is simple and does what you would expect from the homepage of a website there some interactive pieces to the page for example an advertisement bar at the bottom of the page which moves when you scroll your mouse across the page.

I had looked on some of the links on the homepage but one had interested me more than most and that was 'records' this link gave you access to his released records like a library it enabled you to listen to his music also, this is a handy feature for audience members looking to buy a specific song or cd.

Michael Bublé
When I first looked on Michael Bublé's website I thought it looked plain simplistic and uninteresting and would make me as a potential audience member leave the site, whilst the colour scheme works its not attractive to look at.
The websites Tabs are simple and would you would expect to see when looking at a popular artists site for example Download links to his music, Forums/Fan club, Merchandise and Tour Dates.
final piece musc suggestion - Sarah Vaughan (Final Song)
Link to to video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z-9Rg9iJty4
Famous Big Band/Jazz standard sung by various artists throughout the years including Frank Sinartra, Ella Fitzgerald, Billy Holiday and Michael Buble, it can be interperated as either a slow or fast jazz song but the tune has always remained basically the same.
Lyrics:
My funny valentine
Sweet comic valentine
You make me smile with my heart
Your looks are laughable
Unphotographable
Yet you're my favourite work of art
Is your Figure less than Greek?
Is your mouth a little weak?
When you open it to speak
Are you smart?
But don't change your hair for me
Not if you care for me
Stay little valentine stay
Each day is Valentine’s day
Is your figure less than Greek
Is your mouth a little weak
When you open it to Speak
Are you smart
But don't change your hair for me
Not if you care for me
Stay little valentine stay
Each day is valentine’s day
Sweet comic valentine
You make me smile with my heart
Your looks are laughable
Unphotographable

Final piece music suggestion - All of Me, Michael Bublé
All of Me is a classic jazz standard sung by various artists etc Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin. This cover is sung by Michael Bublé and is currently the most known version of the song to date, there is no video to this particular song but can be styled like a typical Jazz/Big Band performance which usually take place on stage with dancers.

Lyrics
All of me,
why not take all of me?
Can't you see I'm no good without you?
Take these arms, I want to lose them
Take these lips, I never use them.
Can't you see I'm no good without you?
Take these arms, I want to lose them
Take these lips, I never use them.
Your
goodbyes left me with eyes that cry
how can I go on there without you?
You took the part that once was my heart
so why not take all of me?
how can I go on there without you?
You took the part that once was my heart
so why not take all of me?
All of me, come on, take all of me
oh! mama Can't you see I'm no good without you
so come on and take these arms, I want to lose them
Take this lips, 'cause though I never use them.
Since your
goodbyes left me with eyes that cry
Oh How can I go on there without you
you took the part that used to be my heart
so why not take all of me?
Oh How can I go on there without you
you took the part that used to be my heart
so why not take all of me?

draft music video - Am I Wrong

Evalaution of the piece
This was our first attempt at a music video for the 2015 Media studies course, I had felt the piece went well for our first attempt, we did the best we could with the limited knowledge of filming and editing we had.
We had filmed this piece on a phone, and whilst this can be seen as a drawback we had found ways of making it something interesting out of it e.g the split walking of the main focuses of the piece, some aspects still needed improvement e.g the incorporation of scene and camera variation but other than that it went well for our first attempt.
