Link to music used for video:
I have thought a lot about what I want to do for my music video project. I knew I wanted to do a piece which incorporated the two things which I love most:
1) Jazz Music
2) Drama
Therefore I have chosen one of my favourite songs called 'My Funny Valentine'. There is a well know version by Frank Sinatra but I have chosen to use a interpretation with a female voice by Sarah Vaughan.
I want to represent this song using a famous scene from Shakespeare's play Hamlet; the drowning scene of Ophelia. I want to look at the themes of madness, love, obsession, fear, despair and death.
I spoke to my sister about my idea for my video, who told me to look at a painting my the Pre-Raphaelite painter John Everett Millias which shows Ophelia's death scene. I would like to base my video around this dramatic image and add to it a further artistically. Upon researching this upon the internet I also like the idea of using a Victorian inspired and setting with a modern day twist.
I live very close too Epping Forest and I intend to use this scenery in the video, which shall have two more settings. Second, a female's bedroom and third a bath filled with petals and candle light.
I want this video to be dark and interpret the song in a new way. Looking at a dysfunctional relationship and a deeply disturbed individual. I hope to use one female character and focus on this womans trauma throughout the piece.
